Abe’s Birthday In Dc

went to dc feb 12th,tried to get to linc memorial for wreath laying but misjudged rush hour and then missed exit for arlington bridge driving up on geo washington parkway ended up at fort marcy park,natl park-once part of dc defences,never been there so i took some pictures[i think this was place vince foster killed himself,when clinton became pres.not to be morbid but i suddenly remembered thet]anyway drive into georgetown across chain bridge[another cw site]end up at fords theater,listen to park ranger,then area school kids got up on stage recite lincolns speeches[get address,2nd inaug]it was cool,interesting.at the end iwent up on stage and took pictures[ive been to theater many times but never on stage]it was tempting to follow booths path backstage but i didnt.they were to have music from period band and more speeches but we[wife and i]went on our way to national archives stood in line to see emancipation procl.i thought it was embossed with patriotic borders but instead found it be written on paper very plain,lincoln handwritting is very neat.it was very cool to see.next we had lunch then off to the capitol did the film and tour took pictures of lots of things including two linc statues[i forgot on way to archives passed church where lincoln went alot took photo of  building. at this moment icant recall its name but it had marker outside]smithsonian has exhibet on linc but we had to get going so we skip it this day.we returned on 15th to smithsonian and lincoln exhibets line was so long we just looked around alittle we will return at alater date.i must add that fords had a large crowd and the peterson house where he died was so packed we bypassed it[been ther before so i wasnt disapointed,this man lincoln had so many people still interested in him its unbelievable.the night of 12th went to lincoln memorial around 8pm alot of people there,as we left bus load were coming in-what aguy, next blog ithink i will tell about assasination sites in dc to see, and booths flight.what he did still rankles me today,from behind like that-face to face lincoln would have pummeled him.  kevin a kearns

    I think that seeing the emancipation proclamation, in all of its dazzling simplicity must have been the most moving of moments. The fact that it was in Lincolns hand, and simple makes the fact that he was a flesh and blood man, just like you, jump out at you. That is the kind of thing you tend to forget when you are dealing with greats, and it is also what makes them great.
