does anyone know what type of bullet looks like an ice cream cone but has no primer instead has a hole that looks as if it needs to be ignited by a spark

with its metalic cartridge the .54 caliber bullet for the burnside carbine looks like an ice cream cone-'a small hole in the base of the cartridge allowed the fire to pass through'-an introduction to civil war small arms by earl coates and dean thomas is where i read all this

It sounds like a Burnside....I believe the small hole once was home for a tiny tube-like primer....I'll double check that for you, though.
