prelude. johnson-gilmor raid ,maryland july 1864, johnsons cavalry crosses over into howard county from baltimore cty. scouts go out on both sides of the column,towards elysville on the patapsco river a lt named edelin is shot dead from soldiers from 3rd eastern shore inf.apparently edelin is a lieutanant in co.b 1st md cav.unable to find out who he was by normal sources[i.e. national archives, official records, censuses etc..]does anyone out there know his first name and where he rests today. i would appreciate any responces or clues.

I wish you good luck finding out. But, I think it will be rather difficult if even official sources haven't got this recorded. Perhaps family members who told the tale from generation to generation is a chance. But if not, I don't see any other way since national archives would have it recorded...

No idea, however have you checked Loudon Park or Greenmont cemeteries in Baltimore? Many Maryland confederates are buried there. In fact Union troops were known to arrest males of military age who attended confederate funerals in Baltimore. So just a thought.....
