If you were an escaped slave living in the North, would you be enthusiastic about joining the army? Why?

It depends what age I am and what do I have to lose. I think it's this way in every war. Young people are more enthusiastic about war, they don't think about death they think of themselves as heroes. Older people has families, a job, maybe some money. They have more to lose and they are more cynical about a chance to make a difference.
