150 years ago today mr issaac smith rode into harpers ferry,about 5 miles away friends had rented a small farm house and this is where he was bound for.with him were two men.mr smith was an interesting man with many ideas that he was waiting to show the people of the us,especially the people of the south.for now he was content to watch and wait for the proper moment… more to follow.  kevin a kearns

    correction- i wrote yesterday from memory,but checking my notes and stephen b. oates i find my memory is wrong on two accounts, mr smith rode into town with three men,and it will be today on the 4th of july 1859 mr smith will travel about the countryside in maryland for a farmhouse to rent .no friends rent a house before he arrives,i dont know where i got that-anyway he will rent the kennedy place today.yesterday he met with someone he knew in town,a mr john e cook.cook arrived about a year before,getting odd jobs finnally gettig work on the c and o canal just across the river on the maryland side.he will marry a local girl and have a son not many months after the wedding.more to come.
