So I know that New Orleans was captured by the Union rather bloodlessly. But I am trying to find out. Were there any hardcore Confederates in the area that attempted to strike back or do anything? Or was New Orleans really a confrontation-free gift?

If so why do you think it all went the way it did?

new orleans suffered from lack of good leadership and forgetfullness of csa goverment, individual people tied hard to help, lovell was placed in command too late.the battle for the city was fought below the city at forts jackson and phillippe bad weather and a powerfull usn rolled over them, plus thro in a csa "mutiney "new orleans fate was sealed-no csn to oppose usn on river.cs govt had been preoccupied with va and tennessee-it was like a gift.city never had any serious threat of recapture that i can recall.front shifted up river to port hudson/baton rouge, vicksburg was next.

Since you know that the union took new orleans easily, I will just talk about the civilians. The civilians didn't like the union men there, but none of them that I know of tried to take it back.
