A Welcome Conversation

John Zito of Beij, Williams and Zito, Inc. comments on the height of a sculpture of a young Abe Lincoln that he was helping install at Great River Park in East Hartford. The sculpture, entitled “A Welcome Conversation,” which includes a boulder for visitors to sit on for an imaginary conversation with the 16th president, is one of a series of 15 Abraham Lincoln pieces being installed along the riverfront.

Apparently, Hartford Connecticut is installing 15 sculptures dedicated to Abraham Lincoln and his life along the river front.

This installation is financed by the Lincoln Financial Group - who are at the same time according to Geoff Elliot closing the famous Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne Indiana.
The Financial group generously donated $500,000 dollars to make this riverside sculpture walk happen, and I initially thought it was wonderful - but can’t help wondering How come they are closing the museum….
Among the statues only three depict Lincoln himself and the rest are more abstract, and discribe events his life goals and dreams.

OK. I had to take a second look. How many Southern commanders would have loved to have seen this image during the Civil War? Abraham Lincoln with a noose around his neck. :-)

Yes - that had occurred to me and to the photographer I am sure - Its a great photograph, with so much underlying possibilities of interpretation.
