This supposedly is a uniform pin from a Union soldier. Is anyone familiar with this type of pin and what it represented?

dear eagle- it appears to be a corps badge or insignia from the 17th corps usa.waf is probally the soldiers initials.it might have been specially made, alot of thease badges were made of cloth and i read, alot of soldiers purchased them from sutlers.i dont know alot about this,it seems that the army didnt supply them so soldiers would find them on thier own.check a dealer in civil war antiques.please keep us posted if you find out more.i saw apicture of this in the civil war enclyclopedia.

Since posting this thread, I have learned that this is a corps badge from the 17th Army Corps of the Dept. of Tennessee. It belonged to my great grandfather, initials W.A.F., who enlisted in the 14/15 Illinois Infantry Battalion and served under the 17th Army Corps.
