if the democrats had won the 1864 election instead of lincoln would they have signed a treaty to end the war leaving the southern statrs as a seperate country ?

McClellan would have continued the war but would have been less ruthless and more willing to negotiate than lincoln at least making some sort of settlement possible. However I doubt that the CS would have accepted anything short of independence.

yeah-less ruthless,mac would have gone back to the days when war wasnt so ruthless and hardly any one was killed. but the results would have been the same-the south brought to her knees and slavery stopped
