Hy, I have been just in Here.

Hello friends I hope that there are knowledgeable discussions going on here for you all.

My name is Ayush and I am from India. For a few months, I have been curious to know about the history of Europe and America. I have just learned about both the world wars in depth and now I want to have knowledge about the civil war.

So it would be great if you guys suggest a good place to start here. Thanks 😎

Ayush:

A very warm welcome to our Forum and I hope that you find it a place of interest. It would be appreciated if you could take the time and go over our "Community Rules and Rules of Etiquette" so that you're familiar with our Forum expectations:

https://www.americancivilwarforum.com/community-rules-rules-of-etiquette-31811.html

We discuss just about everything pertaining to the American Civil War here, so if you have an area of interest to start, i.e. causes of the war, what role slavery played, battles, both on land and water, prominent Generals, soldiers lives etc.; I can point you to that particular thread.

Please make yourself at home and if you have any further questions, feel free to post them under our "General ACW Questions and Answers" thread.

Again...welcome.

Hi ayushchandra and welcome to ACWF. In a nutshell, the South wanted to govern themselves as they saw fit, while the North wanted things to continue as they had. The South was also very concerned that they would have no voice in decisions concerning them in a "Free State" controlled congress with the election of Lincoln.

I grew up in Indiana and was basically taught that the war was fought over slavery, but now believe that it was a convenient excuse for the North. There are many threads on here on this subject with different opinions. Search them out and make up your mind as to the real cause. Jim

Ayush:

For an in depth look at the causes of the American Civil War (often referred to as the WBTS - war between the states) an interesting read is:

"Who Lit the Fuse?" -

and "So What Role Did Slavery Play?" -

https://www.americancivilwarforum.com/so-what-role-did-slavery-play-61874.html

Both threads are interesting, educational, and often times fun!
